Apart from the direct omen to a widespread cultural manifestation, that is the nativity crib you will find in so many maltese households during the festive period, 'Presepju perpetwu' is a twofold metaphor relating to the 'staricase'.
Staircases are a metaphor to overcoming obstacles, means to get to the desired destination, a journey. Concurrently, the steps in this imaginary place are perpetually linked to each other, always leading you to the same spot. From my perspective, a metaphor to the rut we are stuck in when it comes to national growth in relation to transforming our built environment.
Let us with passion ignite the places of the past and present we love so much with a new energy. Malta is not like a 'presepju', fixed in time and place, it is ever-changing and transforming like so many other phenomena. But let us all make an effort to catapult it into an exciting future whilst also respecting our inherited landscape. One should not negate the other.
